Simple Physics and Integrators Accurately Reproduce Mercury Instability Statistics

چکیده

The long-term stability of the Solar System is an issue significant scientific and philosophical interest. mechanism leading to instability Mercury's eccentricity being pumped up so high that Mercury either collides with Venus or scattered into Sun. Previously, only three five-billion-year $N$-body ensembles thousands simulations have been run assess stability. We generate two additional ensembles, each 2750 members, make them publicly available at \texttt{https://archive.org/details/@dorianabbot}. find accurate statistics can be obtained by (1) including Sun 8 planets, (2) using a simple Wisdom-Holman scheme without correctors, (3) basic representation general relativity, (4) time step 3.16 days. By combining our previous we form 9,601-member ensemble ensembles. In this logarithm frequency event increases linearly between 1.3 5 Gyr, suggesting single responsible for instabilities in range becomes more active as progresses. Our work provides robust estimate over next five billion years, outlines methodologies may useful exoplanet system investigations, large integrations serve testbeds theoretical ideas well training sets artificial intelligence schemes.

Orthopedic inpatients’ ability to accurately reproduce partial weight bearing orders.

Partial weight bearing is often prescribed for patients with orthopedic injuries. Patients’ ability to accurately reproduce partial weight bearing orders is variable, and its impact on clinical outcomes is unknown. This observational study measured patients’ ability to reproduce partial weight bearing orders, factors influencing this, patients’ and physiotherapists’ ability to gauge partial wei...

Can cancer researchers accurately judge whether preclinical reports will reproduce?

There is vigorous debate about the reproducibility of research findings in cancer biology. Whether scientists can accurately assess which experiments will reproduce original findings is important to determining the pace at which science self-corrects. We collected forecasts from basic and preclinical cancer researchers on the first 6 replication studies conducted by the Reproducibility Project:...

Instability statistics and mixing rates.

We claim that looking at probability distributions of finite time largest Lyapunov exponents, and more precisely studying their large deviation properties, yields an extremely powerful technique to get quantitative estimates of polynomial decay rates of time correlations and Poincaré recurrences in the-quite-delicate case of dynamical systems with weak chaotic properties.

Physics of symplectic integrators: perihelion advances and symplectic corrector algorithms.

Symplectic integrators evolve dynamical systems according to modified Hamiltonians whose error terms are also well-defined Hamiltonians. The error of the algorithm is the sum of each error Hamiltonian's perturbation on the exact solution. When symplectic integrators are applied to the Kepler problem, these error terms cause the orbit to precess. In this work, by developing a general method of c...
